Ceiling fans certainly have a bigger role to play in air circulation than people may think. With a general opinion that ceiling fans are for hot summer days, we’re slowly showing our customers that these affordable and aesthetically pleasing products also do an important job in winter.
If you’re after some advice or ideas for your Melbourne home, read on and see how a ceiling fan installation in your Eastern suburbs home, or your Melbourne alfresco may just be the answer.
WHERE CAN I INSTALL A CEILING FAN:
In and around Melbourne we are seeing an increase in outdoor living spaces utilising ceiling fans. Other prime locations are in bedrooms, living rooms and studies. It’s important to consider what the room will be used for, because a fan may not be practical (for example over your dinner table isn’t always ideal)
A ceiling fan can be installed anywhere you’d like, but common sense usually ensures they end up in the spaces we’ve just mentioned. It’s just a matter of our amazing Melbourne based electricians running a cable to the fan location, installing bracing in the ceiling cavity to support the fan and prevent ceiling cracking. Make sure you choose the correct type of fan, or let us know what you’d like and we can source it for you and handle all the collection hassles for you.
WHICH TYPE OF FAN:
Choosing the correct ceiling fan for your specific install is really important, but doesn’t have to be hard! Here’s a very basic overview on the most common types of ceiling fans for your Melbourne home.
– AC Ceiling Fan (this is a wall controlled ceiling fan that runs from AC power supply. Slightly noiser hum in most cases, and rarely comes as remote control)
– DC Ceiling Fan (this is a remote control fan that runs from DC power with a built in transformer. Much quieter when running, and always remote control. Can be used to replace an existing light with a light/fan combo. Most cost effective in nearly all cases)
– Without Light (basically the fan has no light built into it)
– With Light (fan has a light in the middle, which is handy if you’re replacing a light with a DC fan and still want a light in that location, like in a bedroom).
Regardless of which fan you want, it still has to look good! Speak to us about colour preference, so we can find the perfect fan for your Melbourne home! Whether a classic white fan suits, or perhaps a Matte black masterpiece or even a woodgrained bespoke design in your patio – there’s something for everyone.
CEILING HEIGHT:
It doesn’t affect most installs, but it may be worthwhile checking your ceiling height. Specifically in multi tiered houses, or sunken lounges, the ceiling can be a bit higher off the ground than normal. This prevents the air movement from being as noticeable to the user, so these situations may warrant using a dropper rod. This drops the fan to a lower level, without affecting functionality or aesthetics.
On the contrary if you wish to install a fan in your patio, your ceiling may be too low! There are some low profile options, but ask before you buy anything so we can help you out.
